Adrian Self - 'Christus Victor'
Renaissance church music
From our guest book:
"Dear All, I have had the privilege of hearing you practice this afternoon at
Lanercost Priory. Your singing was so, so beautiful. It has really moved me.
Thank you very much for letting me just sit and listen to you. With kind regards"

Tuesday, 1st May 2012 at St. George's Church, Kendal
Christus Victor concert repeated
"Adrian Self's Christus Victor is a beautifully structured, modern depiction
of the Passion story, albeit expressed in almost mediaeval terms. Its basic
homophonic idiom was suited to the church's acoustics (St. George's). All voices
blended beautifully; the three soloists delivered their lines professionally;
rhythmic crispness and dynamism were aborad; diction was clean-cut; controlled
sostenuto passages abounded; intonation and tonal control were admirable and the
dynamic range.....was perfect - what more moving musical experience could there
be than that provided by the final, telling bars of The Epilogue?"

Midsummer Miscellany

Saturday, 7th July 2012
St. Thomas's Church, Kendal
'Midsummer Miscellany' concert.
For programme, see 3rd July above
" This was a beautiful concert of mainly choral music both sacred and secular. We were given a wide selection of styles and a variety of languages. The choir was on good form and definitely happiest when singing in English, especially the beautiful Shakespearean texts. I particularly enjoyed the Finzi pieces and atmospheric settings by the present day composers Matthew Harris and Bob Chilcott. This is a large choir with a good well-balanced quality. There were some delightful moments of sensitive, musical singing....it was great to listen to and watch a choir which seemed to really enjoy the music.
" We were also treated to the inspired performance of a very talented and musical young Flugel Horn player, Tom Gray, who gave us two pieces which he played with great panache and musicianship ..... a truly memorable selection of music with some polished performances."
