Dear Friends
The choir is very excited to mark its 50th anniversary with a tour of the South West, starting next Thursday. We perform at Wimborne Minster, Christchurch Priory and Sherborne Abbey. In case you happen to be in the area ... or if have friends there, please do spread the word. The concerts will be free, with a retiring collection.
Here is the complete season's programme, with dates, times and venues.

A Winter’s Journey
Saturday 13 December 7.30pm St John’s, SILVERDALE LA5 0RH
Sunday 14 December 3.00pm St Mary’s, KIRKBY LONSDALE LA6 2AX
Join us in Kirkby Lonsdale or Silverdale for “A Winter’s Journey”.
The concerts include an eclectic assortment of pieces with a seasonal theme, spanning the 16th century to the present day. The glories of the Renaissance are represented by works by Palestrina, Lassus (the Divine Orlando) and Clemens non Papa, also Viadana, Mikolaj Zielinski and Jean Mouton (b 1459). On the way to the 21st century, we stop off to include works by Gustav Holst and Herbert Howells.
Arriving at present day, some of the contemporary artists included are very well-known. We take particular pleasure in introducing composers who may not yet be known to some of our audiences. At this concert we present pieces by Joanna Marsh and Will Todd, Bob Chilcott and Rebecca Dale.
The December concerts would not be complete without a selection of Christmas carols, and of course we oblige! We hope to welcome you to this feast of diverse musical delights.
Tickets £15, free to children and students, online levenschoir.net , from choir members and at the door (subject to availability)

Whilst writing, the choir is reviewing its approach to choice of performance venues and we would love to hear from you .
Levens has a long history of performing in a variety of venues, including small rural parish churches across Cumbria and north Lancashire, as well as large venues such as Lancaster Priory and Kendal Parish Church. Our aim has been to reach out to a variety of communities; also the choir likes to travel and try out new venues. But this spread can result in small audiences, which affects revenue, and results in a less satisfying experience for both audience and choir members. So, the debate now is whether to continue on this track or, instead, concentrate on a few “home venues”, where we have established a strong audience base.
What is your preference?
⬜️ that Levens performs in a variety of venues
⬜️ that Levens develops some “home venues”
If your preference is for home venues, where would you suggest and why?
Please reply to this email address.
As an aspiring “eco-choir”, we encourage our audiences to car-share or use public transport wherever possible, thank you.
