Description: | ![]() Levens Choir turns 50! Our summer concerts in Warton and Windermere celebrate five decades of diverse music-making, ranging from the Renaissance up to the present day, and a few surprise pieces. We also pay homage to our regional roots with pieces by composers associated with the Lake District, whether through birth or acquaintanceship. The first half of the program will feature works by renowned figures with connections to the Lake District such as Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, alongside pieces by contemporary local composers Phillip Cooke and Adrian Self. This diverse selection will showcase the emotional power of part-song, beautifully melding poetry and music. The second half will see Levens Choir revisiting a collection of favourite pieces from the past 50 years. The repertoire will include works by Monteverdi, Tallis, Tippett, Gibbons, and Rani Arbo, demonstrating the versatility of our repertoire. This retrospective will celebrate the choir's journey over the past five decades, featuring pieces that have become staples of their performances. These concerts promise to be a fitting tribute to the choir's 50-year legacy. |
