There are currently 49 singers in the choir, drawn from a wide area of Cumbria and North Lancashire.
The Choir has established a reputation for high performance standards and innovative programming. The repertoire, sacred and secular, light and serious, is challenging and ambitious.
As well as large-scale concerts in our local area, we tour further afield to prestigious venues in most seasons; we also enjoy singing in smaller, more intimate settings - our “Music in Quiet Places” series.
The Choir is fortunate in having many members who can take on solo roles or who are talented instrumentalists, and this helps us to present varied and interesting programmes.
Ian Jones, who founded the Choir in 1975 and has been its Music Director ever since, retired at the end of 2021. His replacement will be Gawain Glenton, who will conduct our Venetian concerts - he has prepared the choir since January as temporary conductor, but will take up his full responsibilities at the end of April 2022.
