Levens Choir turns 50! Our summer concerts in Warton and Windermere, led by our conductor Gawain Glenton, celebrate five decades of diverse music-making, ranging from the Renaissance up to the present day, and a few surprise pieces. We also pay homage to our regional roots with pieces by composers associated with the Lake District, whether through birth or acquaintanceship.
The first half of the program will feature works by renowned figures with connections to the Lake District such as Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, alongside pieces by contemporary local composers Phillip Cooke and Adrian Self. This diverse selection will showcase the emotional power of part-song, beautifully melding poetry and music.
The second half will see Levens Choir revisiting a collection of favourite pieces from the past 50 years. The repertoire will include works by Monteverdi, Tallis, Tippett, Gibbons, and Rani Arbo, demonstrating the versatility of our repertoire. This retrospective will celebrate the choir's journey over the past five decades, featuring pieces that have become staples of their performances.
We are thrilled to be joined by our founder Ian Jones, as guest conductor on both occasions for Vaughan Williams' Valiant for Truth. These concerts promise to be special occasions and a fitting tribute to the choir's 50-year legacy.
Tickets £15, free to children and students. We are also offering the chance of "taster" tickets of £5 for those unable to afford our full price. Visit our website levenschoir.net to purchase tickets, also available from choir members and on the door (subject to availability).
Please forward this message to anyone who may be interested. We hope very much you will join us in July for this celebration.
