Dear Friends
Happy New Year to all our supporters. We have two offerings over the next few months; a pair of concerts of a rather well-known and loved work and a rare Come & Sing opportunity, both led by our Music Director Gawain Glenton.
Handel: Messiah
Organ Ian Pattinson
Saturday 21 March 7.30 Kendal Parish Church, Kendal
Sunday 22 March 3.00 pm, St Oswald’s, Grasmere LA22 9SW
Join us for this performance of one of the greatest choral works of all time. Handel composed this masterpiece in an astonishing 24 days. First performed in Dublin in 1742 and with its London debut in the following year, the work received initially a rather muted public reception but has since gained in popularity such that it is now one of the most popular and frequently performed choral pieces in Western music.
Tickets £15 online, from choir members or at the door. Children and students free.
Come & Sing St Matthew Passion
Saturday 31 January 10.00 - 4.30
Arnside Educational Institute, Church Hill, Arnside, Carnforth, LA5 0DF
In March 2027 Levens Choir will be giving two performances of this sublime choral work to mark its first performance 300 years ago. As part of our early preparations for these concerts we invite you to come along to a Come & Sing day with Levens’ music director, Gawain Glenton, as we explore some of the choral pieces from this work. We will be using the Bärenreiter edition, if you prefer to bring your own copy.
Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available all day. Please bring your own lunch – or sample one of the cafes along Arnside promenade.
Ticket £25. Students free. To book places, go to our website
For any queries about the day, email us
We hope to welcome you to one or more of the events.
Finally, you might have noticed that we have started this our next half-century with a new logo and colour scheme, the choice of green reflecting our aspirations to be an eco-choir.
